It’s Family Time For Tournament Fishermen

Following a great year of tournament fishing, I look forward to fishing with my family and friends

The 2013 tournament season is finally over for me and while it was an outstanding year, I’ve really been looking forward to this break from traveling. This is the time of the year that I get to spend a lot of time with my family enjoying the Holiday traditions as well as taking them fishing. I’ve been home only two days, and my son and I already caught a half a dozen bass out of the lake in our back yard.

The New Skeeters Improve on Perfection

Instead of resting on their laurels, Yamaha and Skeeter continue to improve their models

I just picked up my 2014 Skeeter SX 2250 Bay Boat with 250 h.p. Yamaha VMAX SHO® four stroke, and I’m really impressed with the changes they made to the boat from 2013 model. One of the things that really impresses me about Skeeter Boats and Yamaha is that even though they’ve got the best product on the market, they don’t rest on their laurels. They’re constantly working to improve and build on the current models.

Helm Master™ Makes Perilous Tasks Simple

It’s just so easy to use that I don’t know why any boat wouldn’t have it

I just got home from six weeks of fishing in Venice, Louisiana and I have to say that Louisiana really is the “Sportsman’s Paradise.” There’s just so much variety out there and such a tremendous food source constantly flowing out of the marshes and in the Gulf of Mexico. Any time you have an abundance of food like that, you’re going to have predators in the area.

St. Claire Throws a Curve

I located some great fish on Lake Erie, but those fish moved by tournament time

By Kelly Jordan

The last tournament of the year was on Lake St. Claire and the Detroit River, up in Michigan, and it was a very different kind of event than what we’re used to. Lake St. Claire is a pretty big lake and all the water that goes through the Great Lakes flows through it. It’s between Lake Huron and Lake Erie and a lot like Lake Okeechobee in that it’s big and wide, not very deep with a lot of sand.

We’re officially through with the Bassmaster® Elite Series season and it’s been just an awesome year on the professional tournament trail. I finished in fourth place for Angler of the Year honors, and any time you can do that you have to feel like you accomplished a lot over the previous nine months.

I’m currently in Venice, Louisiana and have been here for a couple of weeks now and fishing just about every day. I just finished filming yellowfin tuna and red snapper episodes of the Reel Animals television show with Billy Noble and Mike Anderson. We had just an absolute blast on the water and caught plenty of both species.

With two tournaments left, long runs are part of the game plan

I felt pretty good going into the Bassmaster Elite Series event on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I learned a lot about the fishery during the event last year, so during the practice period I went to the places I found fish the year before and immediately got into some good fish.
