Company News Yamaha Marine Group Introduces Yamaha Marine Advocacy Tool Posted 6/24/2014 ONLINE TOOL MAKES ADVOCACY EASIER THAN EVER Kennesaw, Ga., June 24, 2014 – Yamaha Marine Group today launched Yamaha Marine Advocacy, a new online tool to help promote marine advocacy efforts. The intuitive online system is designed to give Yamaha Marine dealers and boat builders a quick and easy method to interact with their legislators through phone calls, letters, tweets and other social media outlets. Yamaha Marine Advocacy will be accessible to Yamaha Marine dealers and boat builders through its Yamaha Marine Business System (YMBS). “We want to make sure Congress hears the voices of our Yamaha Marine dealers and boat builders,” said Ben Speciale, President, Yamaha Marine Group. “Their voices are important to our collective, long-term success. Their individual businesses are the life blood of the marine industry. Our dealers and boat builders provide the vital jobs and economic activity that matter to any member of Congress. This new tool Yamaha Marine Advocacy is one method we are using now to make sure their voices are heard. There will be others, so stay tuned.” Yamaha dealers and boat builders can quickly register on Yamaha Marine Advocacy and identify their federal legislators. They can then choose to communicate with selected legislators through a variety of media (Twitter, e-mail, etc.) about issues affecting the marine industry. The two most prominent issues featured on Yamaha Marine Advocacy are the reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Conservation and Management Act (MSA) and capping ethanol blended fuel at 10 percent. Yamaha Marine strongly supports “A Vision for Managing America’s Saltwater Recreational Fisheries,” also known as the Morris-Deal commission report, which calls for commonsense saltwater fisheries management and requests that the reauthorization of MSA specifically address the economic, social and conservation needs of recreational fishing and to differentiate those needs from commercial fishing. Yamaha Marine is also working to prevent gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol from becoming the primary available fuel. Extensive testing proves that E15 causes severe internal damage to outboard motors. Pistons, valves and other internal parts fail with great regularity when run on fuel containing more than 10 percent ethanol. Yamaha Marine supports H.R. 1462, the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) Reform Act, which caps ethanol in the fuel supply at 10 percent, preventing the damage E15 could cause to marine engines. Yamaha Marine will conduct live orientation sessions for Yamaha Marine Advocacy at dealer meetings throughout the boat builder meeting season. Dates and locations will be announced soon.
