Yamaha Marine Group Praises U.S. House’s Passage of Boating Infrastructure Bill

BOATING INDUSTRY’S GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY SYSTEMS PLAY KEY ROLE IN POLICY SUCCESS

Kennesaw, Ga., September 30, 2016 – Late Wednesday evening, the United States House of Representatives passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 (WRDA) by a vote of 399-25.  The bill now heads to a conference committee to be reconciled with the Senate version, which passed earlier this month.

“I want to sincerely thank everyone in the industry who took the time to send prewritten letters on the WRDA bill to Congress through Yamaha Marine Advocacy. The passage of this bill once again proves our efforts to advocate through the industry’s online advocacy systems really do have a tremendous impact,” said Bill Boehman, Vice President, Yamaha Marine Group. “Whether you use our Yamaha Marine Advocacy system, the National Marine Manufacturers Association®’s Boating United, the American Sportfishing Association®’s Keep America Fishing, or any of the other systems available, it has a huge impact on the future of our industry.

“As an industry, we must show solidarity and resolve to affect legislation that impacts our businesses.  The WRDA bill provides a strong next step forward in resolving the issues we’ve seen in Florida in the estuaries adjacent to Lake Okeechobee,” added Boehman. “Please continue to advocate through the grassroots advocacy systems available to you so that we can make sure this bill becomes law.”

Recreational anglers remain hopeful that WRDA will be signed into law before the end of the year.  The bill would provide authorization and funding for a wide variety of boating infrastructure projects throughout the country.  Specific language is included in the bill to address issues that have negatively impacted the Florida Everglades.
