Becomes Exclusive Powered-by Outboard Sponsor and Official Outboard Sponsor

Kennesaw, Ga.  – July 27, 2017 – Yamaha Marine Group announced today its sponsorship of the Jimmy Johnson “Quest for the Ring” National Championship Fishing Week, featuring billfish tournaments that have enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years.

The three-year agreement names Yamaha the Exclusive Powered-by and the Official Outboard Sponsor of the tournament week, which includes the Jimmy Johnson’s National Billfish Championship and the Jimmy Johnson Celebrity Pro-Am tournament. Both take place in Key Largo, Fla., March 7-10, 2018, hosted primarily at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill at MM104.

“Sponsorship of the JJFishWeek gives Yamaha the opportunity to demonstrate the power of our V8 and V6 Offshore outboards. More importantly, it represents Yamaha’s commitment to the future of competitive fishing,” said David Ittner, Tournament, Sponsorship and Pro Staff Manager, Yamaha Marine Group.  “The integrity of the tournament aligns well with Yamaha’s dedication to conservation, and the growth of recreational offshore fishing.”

“This tournament series represents a great area of growth in sportfishing, we are proud to have Yamaha on board to provide competing anglers with the most reliable offshore outboards on the water,” said Tod Roy, President, CI Management Group.

During the Jimmy Johnson Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament, celebrities will fish with some of the top anglers for a fun day of competition for charity. The Tournament will award rings to Top Angler and Top Boat as they fish for billfish and fun fish. The Pro-Am tournament takes place on March 8, 2018 at Ocean Reef Club.

The Jimmy Johnson two-day “Quest for the Ring” National Billfish Championship will feature the top anglers in the country as they hit the waters for the largest guaranteed purse in sportfishing history, and the largest purse in Florida tournament history. Teams will be fishing for a guaranteed $1.5 million in the highly competitive tournament, brought to you by Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, which includes catch and release categories, weighted categories, and overall awards.   The National Billfish Championship fishing days take place March 9-10, 2018.

“We are pleased to have Yamaha on board as our Exclusive Powered by and Official Outboard Sponsor,” said two-time Super Bowl Champion and tournament-owner Jimmy Johnson. “We look forward to working together during the next three years to promote and grow the sport of recreational billfishing.”

In addition to being an avid boater and angler, Johnson has experienced a long and successful career as a head football coach. Among his many accolades are two Super Bowl championships, a college football national championship, a college-football Walter Camp Coach of the Year award, and an AP NFL® Coach of the Year award.  Johnson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame® in 2012.
