Yamaha Pro Spencer Deutz Wins AIM® Weekend Walleye Series Presented by Yamaha at North Dakota’s Devils Lake AWWS Warrior Boats Open

DEVILS LAKE, North Dakota – July 15, 2016 – Yamaha Pro Spencer Deutz and his wife, Carley, from Moorhead, Minn. brought in 29.86 pounds to take home the winnings for the final AIM® Weekend Walleye Series at Devils Lake AWWS Warrior Boats Open on Sunday, July 10.

The win was accomplished with their skill and with the use of 7/8-ounce Rapala® Jigging Rap’s® – an increasingly popular lure typically used during the winter – with the husband/wife team fishing deep rock piles for most of the day.

“Rap’s® are very popular now for summer, but fishing the rocks you can go through a ton of them,” Deutz said. “But you had to move, or you wouldn’t catch anything. If we didn’t at one [spot], we picked up and went to the next spot . . . our first fish came right away in the first five minutes, a 21-3/4-incher.”

“We had three good fish over 25 inches,” he said, and that made the climb into first place easier. “We had one at 9 a.m. and two more with like 20 minutes left to go in the day. The bite was good all day. Using jigs, it’s just a reaction bite. I think they see something and just grab onto it. We caught a lot but the big ones were one here and one there,” he said.

Deutz and his wife were at Devils Lake to fish a young angler tournament on Saturday, July 9, in their Yamaha V MAX SHO® 250/Ranger® package, and decided to enter the AIM®Weekend Walleye Series final as well. The couple took home $4,500 for winning the final Open of the tournament.

Second place finishers were two more Minnesotans, Dave Randash of Dilworth, and Ed Piekutowski, of Moorhead, with a bag of 25.55 pounds, who took home $2,000 for a 25.55-pound bag.
