Hard Work Driven by Passion

SUBMITTED BY:
Chris Cokinos is a self-taught man in every sense of the word. A jack-of-all-trades, he built his life around an early childhood passion for fishing and boating. He’s a commercial fisherman, a cranberry grower, and a successful marine repair business owner. Always on the go, one thing remains a central piece of Chris’ life – his love for the water.

“I didn’t come from a fishing background, but my dad participated in American Power Boat Association® hydroplane racing, so I was around the water,” said Chris. “During the summers, my friends and I fished every day. We had little two-stroke motors, a Yamaha 3.3 in fact, that we would throw on canoes and fish all day long. That’s when I got the bug and knew I wanted to do something around the water when I grew up. I had my first boat before I had my first car.

“Once I got a little older, I remember having a fight with my mom about what I wanted to do as a career,” he continued. “I was in a private school at the time, and I had a huge interest in taking things apart and putting them back together. I would go to junk yards and get old motors to disassemble them and put them back together just for fun – I wanted to be a mechanic.”

Fast forward and Chris took his two interests and built a career. Off the coast of Mass., he fishes commercially for black seabass, tautog, striped bass, bluefin tuna and scup.  He still fishes out of his original commercial boat, a 95 Cape Craft 2100 with a 95 Yamaha 150. That’s right – an original Yamaha two-stroke that now has more than 4,400 hours.

“That Yamaha 150 two-stroke still runs 25 miles offshore each way for 8-9 hours per day and it’s absolutely perfect,” said Chris. “I love that outboard – I’ll run it until it will no longer runs. In my shop, I work on two strokes but also Yamaha four-strokes.”

Chris started his marine repair business, Triple C Marine, working on Yamaha two strokes because that’s what he knew. That knowledge evolved and now he takes care of more than 70 customers, repairing outboards and winterizing boats. Almost all of the outboards he services are Yamahas.

“All of the business in my shop is from referrals, - I’ve never promoted myself,” he said. “It got to a point to where people would just say ‘Call Chris. He’ll know how to fix it.’ And usually I can.”

Chris’s son and daughter are also fully immersed in the boating and fishing life. “My son shares my love of fishing and is just as big of a Yamaha fan as I am,” said Chris. “And my daughter helps me out in the shop all the time, pulling lower units and changing water pumps. I’ll never run anything but Yamaha. They are simply the best motors on the market – the perfect power option all the way around, two stroke or four stroke.

“My whole family eats, sleeps and breathes boating and fishing. We work hard together for the life we love, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
