Yamaha Marine has committed to achieving carbon neutrality in our operations by 2035 and our product line by 2050. To do this, we're exploring several paths to sustainability—new outboard technologies, sustainable fuels, and operational improvements. In our quest for solutions, we hope to inspire others in the industry to do the same—protect the waters we all love through more sustainable boating.

Innovative Power Alternatives

With Yamaha at the forefront, the U.S. recreational marine industry has cut engine emissions by more than 90 percent in the last 20 years, but there's still work to be done. Yamaha's pursuing a Multiple-Technology Solution to achieve carbon neutrality—while maintaining performance and range—across our full line of outboards.

Drop-In Sustainable Marine Biofuels

Electric Propulsion

Yamaha has developed its own electric propulsion system—and we're just getting started. We've brought the experts at Torqeedo® on board to accelerate the expansion of electric within our line of outboards.

Our HARMO® electric propulsion system was introduced in 2021. This ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY electric boat control system is great for small, light-weight vessels.

Our acquisition of Torqeedo gives us access to their more than 250 PATENTS and 20 YEARS OF EXPERTISE in electric outboard development. Select Torqeedo models are currently available through Yamaha dealers.

Hydrogen Fuel

Yamaha is exploring the exciting possibility of hydrogen power for outboards. Unlike electrification, hydrogen produces massive power to move large boats, without adding significant weight—all while achieving potentially near-zero emissions.

Yamaha is part of the FUEL CELL & HYDROGEN ENERGY ASSOCIATION (FCHEA) to learn and collaborate with hydrogen innovators.

We unveiled the H2 hydrogen outboard in 2024—AN INDUSTRY FIRST. This collaboration with Regulator Marine, Inc. and Roush Industries, Inc. showed the world that hydrogen power can be integrated into outboard, fuel system and boat design. Together we continue to REFINE THIS TECHNOLOGY.

Drop-In Sustainable Marine Biofuels

Up to 75% of the recreational marine vehicles on the water were produced before 2010. Drop-in, sustainable biofuels work with internal combustion engines, enabling the reduction of CO2 emissions in existing boats by up to 30%, immediately.

We've toured the country, demonstrating the use of 2ND GENERATION DROP-IN MARINE BIOFUELS. These gasoline bio blends provide nearly equal power to ethanol blended gas—without ethanol's corrosion and water attracting properties.

We're working with fuel providers to develop 3rd generation biofuels that are close to 100% CARBON NEUTRAL. They eliminate gasoline altogether but function as a total drop-in solution to minimal-emission boating.

Mindful Operating Practices

Yamaha's walking the walk. Beyond boating, we're minimizing our impact as a company—from tapping into clean energy to recycling and upcycling to finding efficiencies in our production and logistics.

Recycling and Waste Diversion

We've recycled 136,427 POUNDS of plastic shipping covers through the Yamaha Rightwaters Recycling Program with Nexus Circular.

274+ TONS of waste have been diverted, including nearly 1 ton of copper, 55.75 tons of mixed metal, 100 tons of cardboard, 90 tons of wooden pallets, and 27 tons of white PVC.

REDUCING CARBON EMISSIONS

Yamaha will soon be running largely on SOLAR POWER at our Kennesaw Headquarters thanks to an array installed in 2024.

We're refining our production and logistics processes to CUT CO2 EMISSIONS.

We continue to engineer for maximum outboard FUEL EFFICIENCY, which has been a passion for us from the very beginning.

RESOURCE EFFICIENCY

Yamaha's REDUCING WASTE and water consumption by 50% in our production process.

We're minimizing our packaging and using RECYCLABLE MATERIALS whenever possible.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND PARTNERSHIPS

Yamaha RightwatersTM is a national sustainability initiative created by the Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit. Through it, we support proper marine stewardship, restoring and maintaining marine habitats, mitigating aquatic invasive species, and the continuation of scientific research. Yamaha Rightwaters currently partners with 50 different environmental conservation groups, and together, we've removed more than 212 tons of waste from U.S. waterways and sequestered more than 151,621 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
